Project will support Cost-Effective, Reliable Renewable Power Generation

Date: January 8, 2015

PITTSBURGH, PA — Power management company Eaton today announced it is helping Green Mountain Power (GMP) modernize, upgrade and automate the electrical system at its Proctor, Vermont hydroelectric plant. Under the contract, Eaton will update the plant’s power and control systems – allowing GMP to reduce costs, enhance reliability and manage the facility remotely. The project supports Green Mountain Power’s long-standing effort to deliver the most environmentally sound and cost effective electricity possible for its customers.

“Eaton’s power management expertise and solutions will help Green Mountain Power continue to produce low-cost, low-carbon and reliable power at the Proctor hydroelectric station,” said Dorothy Schnure, a spokeswoman from Green Mountain Power.

Eaton will design and install new electrical infrastructure at the century-old Proctor hydroelectric station, which currently includes five turbine-generating units that produce 6.9 megawatts of low carbon energy. Expected to be complete in January 2015, the modernization project includes the replacement of the excitation system, governors, turbines, control system and power distribution equipment.

“With our expert engineering resources, Eaton is committed to helping modernize and ensure that the Proctor hydro generation facility can operate sustainably for decades to come,” said John Stampfel, vice president and general manager, Electrical Engineering Services and Systems Division, Eaton.

With a fleet of 32 hydro stations across Vermont, GMP has one of the largest fleets of hydroelectric generating stations in New England. The facilities produce renewable energy at a fraction of the cost of most other generation sources.
