PITTSBURGH, PA — Power management company Eaton today introduced the XP500 series of industrial touch-panel human machine interfaces (HMIs). The new devices combine intuitive operation with a multi-touch display that allows users to enhance productivity and command accuracy, while strengthening device security. The HMI panel can be mounted in switch cabinets or operator consoles to provide reliable operation for standard machine building applications in virtually all industrial sectors.

“With the XP500, Eaton has transferred user-friendly consumer technologies into the field of automation to support the evolving needs of today’s machine and plant building customers,” said Kerri Nitzschke, product line manager at Eaton. “The rich feature-set is designed to enhance machine performance in the most technologically advanced industrial settings, while helping prevent errors and unplanned downtime caused by inaccurate command detection.”

The XP500’s projected capacitive touchscreen (PCT) display allows users to navigate function fields, control elements and diagnostic documents with two-finger scroll, zoom and gesture capabilities. Further, the HMIs are engineered with highly accurate and precise display sensors designed to prevent accidental operating errors and machine starts. To heighten safety and device security, critical functions can be configured to only allow activation by pressing up to four control fields simultaneously.

The devices operate on Windows® 7 Standard Embedded software with an AMD® 1.65 GHz dual core processor and integrated Radeon® high definition graphics card to provide high-performance processing power and graphics. The robust hardware comes standard with Eaton’s Visual Designer supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software pre-installed and pre-licensed for runtime operation allowing for quick and easy application startup.

The HMI is designed with two independent Ethernet Gigabaud ports and two USB 3.0 connections, as well as DVI output and RS-232 and RS-485 interfaces. Additionally, a removable CFast memory card supplements the device‘s solid state internal storage.

The XP500 series of HMIs is available with widescreen displays of 10.1 inches, 15.6 inches or 21.5 inches.

The smooth non-reflective safety glass of the display comes in an easy to maintain design that features a split-free and edge-free front to allow for thorough cleaning, even with strong cleaning agents. To learn more, visit www.eaton.com/oi.
